Monday & Tuesday (Grades K-2)
9 – 10:30 a.m. – Pottery for Beginners
In Pottery we will be using air dry clay. The students will be taught how to make a vessel using pinch, coil, slab, or score and weld techniques. On the second day we will be able to decorate our work with paint.
10:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. – Mixed Media / Artist Inspiration
In mixed media students will learn to draw organic forms using Sumi brushes. Students will be taught the practice of ink blowing. We will be learning how to blend watercolors and apply final details carefully to our projects.
Artist inspiration will be a simple art history lesson and game. After selecting a famous artist, the students will have a prompt.
1:15-2:45 – 3D Paper Relief Sculptures / Plein Air
In 3D Paper Relief we will be making small sculptures using assorted paper and glue. Students will be working on their hand eye coordination during precision cutting and gluing.
In plein air the children will go outside as a class to draw what they see. Everyone will be given a clipboard and materials for working outdoors. During this segment the students will learn how to slow down and observe what is around them.
3 – 4:30 p.m. – Shape & Pattern
Materials will be supplied by the fair, and an instructor will oversee the project. Students will be working with layered shapes and patterns. This will be a two-day project where the student will draw and trace first, then color form and pattern the second day.
